Irina Bokova est Directrice générale de l’UNESCO depuis novembre 2009. Elle est la première femme à la tête de cette organisation. Elle s’est engagée activement dans des eff orts internationaux pour faire progresser la qualité de l’éducation pour tous, l’égalité des sexes, les droits humains, le dialogue culturel et la coopération scientifi que. Elle est également secrétaire exécutive de l’Initiative mondiale du secrétaire général de l’ONU pour l’éducation avant tout.

Reforms and Changes in Governance of Higher Education in Africa Année de publication: 2016 Auteur: N.V. Varghese Auteur institutionnel: UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) Higher education in Africa has received favourable political attention and funding support in the period following independence. The rationale for state funding was questioned in the 1980s, and the higher education reforms in the 1990s centred on finding alternative ways of financing and on improving the managerial efficiency of universities. This focus was reflected in the market-friendly reforms that led to the privatization of public institutions and the promotion of private institutions. These reforms resulted in substantial changes in the governance and management of higher education. IIEP initiated a research study to analyse the reforms and to understand their effects on the governance of higher education at institutional and national levels. Based on studies carried out in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa, this book shows how the reforms have effected changes in the governance and management of institutions of higher education in Africa. 
Transforming Systems in Times of Adversity: Education and Resilience; White Paper Année de publication: 2019 Auteur: Ritesh Shah Auteur institutionnel: United States Agency for International Development (USAID) This white paper was commissioned to provide USAID, including Missions, Regional Bureaus, Pillar Bureaus, and the Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), with an overview of global and Agency thinking and practice on education and resilience and a foundation and justification for positioning USAID education efforts more concretely within a resilience frame.The white paper is organized into three key sections. The first section outlines the business case for resilience, explaining how and why resilience is an important consideration for education programs to consider in contexts of crisis and conflict and how education is well poised as a sector to contribute to strengthening resilience. The second section presents a conceptual framework for understanding how resilience operates through and within the education sector and program interventions. The third section provides a series of key considerations for developing and supporting USAID education programs with a resilience lens or focus.
