Multiculturalism or Hybridisation?: Cultural Mixing and Politics 出版年份: 2013 作者: Paolo Gomarasca The aim of this article is to analyse the recent debate on the end of multiculturalism. It has become a commonplace to say that multiculturalism has failed because of its presumed differentialism, i.e. its tendency to conceive different cultures as cognitive islands. The competing model is characterised by an intercultural approach. The article firstly intends to demonstrate that this is a false alternative within limits. Contrary to popular caricature, one version of multiculturalism is in fact attuned to the emphasis on cultural exchanges and connections. The problem is that the differentialist version has become the standard version of multiculturalism. That is why the article further argues for the importance of the concept of hybridisation as a way of moving beyond the controversy over multiculturalism’s supposed failures. Hybridisation suggests one aspect which can be considered relevant: Cultures are originally and intrinsically intertwined. Finally, the article investigates the political implication of this concept of culture and tries to justify the request that cultural mixing processes should be channelled within the political framework of democracy, especially at the level of civil society.
Climate Change and Water Governance in Cambodia: Challenge and Perspectives for Water Security and Climate Change in Selected Catchments, Cambodia 出版年份: 2015 作者: Sam Sreymom, Pech Sokhem 机构作者: Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI) This book is the major output of a three-year research project titled “Climate Change and Water Governance in Cambodia”, supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada. The book is the result of close collaboration between the Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI), a lead institute, and project partners: the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM), Ministry of Environment (MOE), Tonle Sap Authority (TSA), Royal University of Agriculture (RUA), Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) and the Mekong Programme on Water, Environment and Resilience(M-POWER).The project focussed on three river catchments around the Tonle Sap Lake: Stung Chrey Bak in Kompong Chhnang province, Stung Chinit in Kompong Thom province and Stung Pursat in Pursat province. The main research outcomes encompass (1) better understanding among decision makers, researchers and students of the livelihood implications of hydrological and ecosystem changes caused by changes in climate and human systems in the Tonle Sap Basin, and (2) improved methods of integrating local knowledge and scientific empirical evidence into Cambodia’s policy and planning framework.

Global Humanitarian Overview 2025 出版年份: 2024 机构作者: UN. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN. OCHA) A snapshot of the global trends driving increased humanitarian needs in 2025, analysis from 2024 and an overview of where the system is delivering better to help those affected by crises. The Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO) is the world’s most comprehensive, authoritative and evidence-based assessment of humanitarian need. Through plans that prioritize those most in need, it aims to fight hunger, killer diseases, gender-based violence and displacement. The GHO 2025 presents an analysis of global crises and needs and the humanitarian plans to address them. In 2025, humanitarian partners are appealing for over US$47 billion to assist nearly 190 million people facing life-threatening and urgent needs across 72 countries. The report looks at response trends to strengthen, such as localization, cash, accountability and the changes needed to deliver aid effectively: security and funding. The GHO presents a collective picture of humanitarians' achievements and, conversely, what happens when humanitarians are unable to deliver aid. On This Journey, No One Cares If You Live or Die: Abuse, Protection, and Justice Along Routes Between East and West Africa and Africa’s Mediterranean Coast 出版年份: 2020 机构作者: UN. Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) | Mixed Migration Centre This report draws on data collected by the Mixed Migration Centre’s 4Mi monitors along the route to map the places where refugees interviewed in 2018 and 2019 most frequently reported deaths, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), physical violence, and kidnappings occurred. It illustrates how refugees and migrants using the route face a series of risks including as they cross into eastern Sudan, and when crossing the Sahara Desert, and then again in multiple places in Libya. Similarly, those traveling through West Africa reported multiple incidents of physical violence, SGBV, as well as deaths at various points. Refugees and migrants have reported being subjected to brutal violence, including being burnt with hot oil, melted plastic, or heated metal objects, being electrocuted, tied in stress positions, and experiencing and witnessing repeated sexual violence, often in the context of ransom demands. UNHCR staff and partners continue to witness the severe impact these abuses have had on the mental health of many men, women, and children.
Inclusion Beyond Borders: What Is Needed to Recognize, Validate and Accredit the Prior Learning of Migrants and Refugees? (Lifelong Learning Policy Brief; 15) 出版年份: 2024 机构作者: UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) This policy brief provides insights regarding four principal areas of action for policy-makers and other key stakeholders who seek to build the recognition, validation and accreditation (RVA) systems that cater to the needs of migrants and refugees as distinct groups. It highlights the importance of developing an integrated national policy approach that supports sustainable implementation of RVA practices inclusive of newcomers from different walks of life. It also looks at establishing a clear, shared vision for a comprehensive RVA system that is inclusive of both migrants and refugees, reflected in key building blocks. It explores the creation of quality processes to assess the skills, competencies and potential of individuals from diverse backgrounds accurately and professionally, through flexible, accessible practices. Finally, it evaluates how RVA outreach and counselling mechanisms that cater to both migrants and refugees can be incorporated.
