Le rapport n’est pas un examen purement technique des effets des changements climatiques sur le cycle de l’eau. Il s’agit plutôt d’énoncer les difficultés, les possibilités et les réponses potentielles aux changements climatiques – adaptation, atténuation et résilience renforcée – pouvant être abordées en améliorant la gestion et l’utilisation des ressources en eau et en offrant des services d’approvisionnement en eau et d’assainissement pour tous et de manière durable. [Facts and Figures] The United Nations World Water Development Report 2020: Water and Climate Change; Facts and Figures Année de publication: 2020 Auteur: Engin Koncagül | Michael Tran | Richard Connor Auteur institutionnel: UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) Since the mid-20th century, changes in the intensity and frequency of extreme weather and climate events have been observed, including a decrease in cold temperature extremes, an increase in warm temperature extremes, an increase in extremely high sea levels and an increase in the number of heavy precipitation events in a number of regions (Min et al., 2011).Climate projections indicate with high confidence that extreme precipitation events will become more intense and frequent in many regions, but also that heatwaves will occur more often and last longer. The former will increase global flood risk (Hirabayashi et al., 2013), while the latter is expected to make droughts more intense (Trenberth et al., 2014). These risks are unevenly distributed geographically, and are generally larger for vulnerable people and communities in countries at all levels of development (IPCC, 2014a). Figure 1. Gender norms and power dynamics shape how women and men of different backgrounds experience or contribute to insecurity in a changing climate. Grounded in a series of case studies from research and programming experience, this report offers a comprehensive framework for understanding how gender, climate and security are inextricably linked. The report assesses entry points for action across existing global agendas and suggests concrete recommendations for how policymakers, development practitioners and donors can advance three inter-related goals: peace and security, climate action and gender equality.

Now, in only a short period of time, the COVID-19 pandemic has unleashed an unprecedented crisis, causing further disruption to SDG progress, with the world’s poorest and most vulnerable affected the most.Using the latest data and estimates, this annual stocktaking report on progress across the 17 Goals shows that it is the poorest and most vulnerable – including children, older persons, persons with disabilities, migrants and refugees – who are being hit the hardest by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Women are also bearing the heaviest brunt of the pandemic’s effects.The report also shows that climate change is still occurring much faster than anticipated.

Changing Minds, Not the Climate: UNESCO Mobilizes to Address the Climate Crisis Année de publication: 2019 Auteur institutionnel: UNESCO The climate crisis is the challenge of the century. Scientific reports, including those of UNESCO, one after another describe increasingly pessimistic scenarios. All experts agree on one thing: we are in a race against time. A race to try to reserve our natural habitat in all of its beauty and diversity, to protect our ecosystems and natural resources and to pass them on to future generations. A race to mitigate the destructive effects of climate change and find the most appropriate innovative solutions.The disruptions caused by climate change are already part of our daily lives and trigger social, political, geopolitical and humanitarian upheavals. The climate crisis is not only threatening our ecosystems, it is also undermining fundamental rights, widening inequalities and creating new injustices. That is why ethical imperative must guide our action. Beyond the political and legal agreements essential to preparing for the future, change involves a shift in mindset, a different way of considering the place of humans in nature. This challenge mobilizes all resources, including education, research and creativity. It is an ethical and humanistic commitment. This is UNESCO’s mandate, and it is a matter of urgency. Les rapports scientifiques, dont ceux de l’UNESCO, se succèdent et dessinent des scénarios de plus en plus pessimistes. Tous les experts s’accordent sur une certitude : une course contre la montre est lancée. Une course pour tenter de préserver notre habitat naturel dans sa beauté et sa diversité, pour protéger nos ecosystèmes, nos ressources naturelles et les transmettre aux générations futures. Une course pour atténuer les effets destructeurs du changement climatique et trouver les solutions innovantes les plus appropriées.Ces dérèglements constituent déjà notre quotidien et provoquent des bouleversements sociaux, politiques, géopolitiques et humanitaires.
