UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet) Strategic Framework for Action 2025-2029: Building Peaceful and Sustainable Futures through Transformative Education Year of publication: 2025 Corporate author: UNESCO The ASPnet Strategic Framework explains how UNESCO's pioneering Associated Schools Network (ASPnet) contributes to the achievement of UNESCO’s strategic objectives for Education. This Framework outlines the key thematic areas, innovative educational approaches, and the anticipated outcomes of this dynamic community of educational innovators. It also delineates the roles and responsibilities of its primary stakeholders. The three thematic areas are : "Peace through Global Citizenship Education," "Education for Sustainable Development," and "Intercultural Learning and Appreciation of Cultural Diversity and Heritage." Through initiatives in these areas, ASPnet members inspire and empower teachers, principals, students, families, education professionals, and policymakers to champion transformative education. This prepares learners to become responsible global citizens in an ever-evolving and complex world. Ultimately, the goal is for all participants in this ecosystem to learn from one another and promote international understanding. 
The “Hate Speech” Policies of Major Platforms during the COVID-19 Pandemic Year of publication: 2021 Corporate author: UNESCO Montevideo This document reports an increase in so-called “hate speech” posts on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although dissimilar, such an increase can be observed in the transparency reports of the different platforms and the surge in content moderation since March 2020.During the same period—as a result of the lockdown measures adopted in most countries around the world—platforms increased the use of AI tools for content moderation. Therefore, we can’t fully say whether the interannual growth is linked to increased posts or changes in monitoring systems. 
China’s Bamboo-Related Intangible Cultural Heritage and Innovation in Bamboo Weaving Year of publication: 2024 Author: Li Yanxia | Liu Chenge | Wang Renfei Corporate author: UNESCO Beijing | International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (INBAR) In the writing and editing of China’s Bamboo-Related Intangible Cultural Heritage and Innovation in Bamboo Weaving (hereinafter called the “Booklet”), we have focused on introducing Chinese bamboo weaving to allow readers to comprehend relevant knowledge about the craft, fully appreciate its charm, and inspire the passing down and innovation of bamboo-weaving techniques.The Booklet includes six chapters focusing on intangible cultural heritage, China’s national bamboo related intangible cultural heritage elements, the development of Chinese bamboo weaving, analysis of bamboo-weaving patterns, modern designs and product innovations, and a tutorial series on bamboo-woven products. The first chapter introduces the definition of global and Chineseintangible cultural heritage. The second chapter systematically outlines the history, model for classification and contemporary development status of China’s traditional bamboo crafts. The third chapter presents an in-depth analysis of the development of bamboo-weaving skills. The fourth chapter features 12 flat weaving patterns recorded by the project team in Chishui City, Guizhou Province, where “China Danxia, a World Heritage Site, is located. It provides a detailed exploration of pattern characteristics and weaving methods, accompanied by picture and video tutorials for readers to practice by hands. The fifth chapter comprehensively elaborates on the innovative design system of bamboo-woven products and showcases real-world cases through personal involvement in designing and collecting innovative bamboo-woven products from both domestic and international sources. Finally, the sixth chapter explains the production methods of common bamboo-woven products to readers through video tutorials.

World Trends in Freedom of Expression and Media Development – Special Digital Focus 2015 provides a substantive analysis of key areas identified in the first World Trends as particularly relevant for further study, namely the issues of: online hate speech, protection of journalism sources, and the role of internet intermediaries in fostering freedom of expression, as well as continued focus on the safety of journalists. It also builds on issues raised in the 2015 UNESCO study titled Keystones to foster inclusive Knowledge Societies. 
Mapping Cultural Policies in Small Island Developing States: Amplifying SIDS Voices in the Global Policy Dialogue on Culture and Sustainable Development Year of publication: 2025 Corporate author: UNESCO Mapping Cultural Policies in Small Island Developing StatesSpanning three sub-regions – the Atlantic, Indian Ocean and South China Sea (AIS), the Caribbean, and the Pacific – the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) represent 39 UNESCO Member States and 9 Associate Members. Countries and regional organizations have increasingly demonstrated their commitment in the context of fast-evolving policy landscape and cultural ecosystems, encompassing the different dimensions of culture through its diversity and a wide spectrum of concerned stakeholders. Today, a SIDS-specific, culture-led development vision is on the rise.Culture has a multifaceted impact on sustainable development pathways of the SIDS, from climate action, biodiversity protection and food security to economic diversification, social inclusion, gender equality or urban sustainability. The voices and aspirations of SIDS must be heard in the global policy dialogue, in acknowledgement of their priorities, opportunities and insights. International cooperation efforts by UNESCO and other organizations are also essential in identifying areas for future policy investment and adaptation at the national and regional levels.Following the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development – MONDIACULT 2022, SIDS are championing culture for sustainable development towards the adoption of a new Programme of Action, the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS 2024-2034.

The online book and its print edition were launched on 8 October 2020 during the Faith for Nature Global Conference, (5th - 8th October) in Skálhol, Iceland. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the faith traditions and scientific findings that underpin the understandings and reflections of world religions concerning environmental sustainability. It includes clear statements from sacred scripts and faith leaders. It underlines that protecting the Earth, restoring ecosystems, preventing pollution, and leaving behind a healthy environment for the next generations is an ethical, moral and spiritual responsibility. With more than one hundred million houses of worship around the globe, adapting green building principles is a massive demonstration of commitment to sustainability.

It shows how we perceive life and also determines it. Language plays an important role in the formation of our thoughts and behaviors, hence the construction of our reality about gender. As UNDP Turkey, we ground on gender equality and women’s empowerment principles in all of our programs and interventions, within the institution and in all forms of communication with our partners. The reason we prepared this guide is to determine the ways to have a gender responsive approach when communicating both in the office and with the institutions, organizations, and individuals we work with.The language we use begins to take shape from the moment we are born. It is kneaded within the norms, thoughts, and actions of the society we live in and becomes a set of rules that we unconsciously internalize. Therefore, we often use a sexist language even without realizing and thus reproduce it at every turn.Based on the idea that transformation begins with awareness, this guide offers a stimulating path to the limits of our language, demonstrates how it reproduces gender inequality, and offers ways for changing this.We believe that gender responsive communication is a sign of commitment to gender equality for any country, community or institution. Reporting on Migrants and Refugees: Handbook for Journalism Educators Year of publication: 2023 Corporate author: UNESCO Covering migration: A challenge for journalism educators worldwide This handbook enables journalism educators worldwide to address one of the challenges of the 21st century – migration and refugee matters. In a set of thirteen modules, journalism educators are provided with a comprehensive curriculum. It covers all aspects needed to train analysis, research, presentation, marketing, and ethics of migration coverage.The handbook is unique as it comprises results of communication studies as well as political and social sciences. It has been developed by an international and cross-cultural group of media researchers, media educators and media practitioners.Journalism educators will be enabled to jump-start a new curriculum. Journalism students will learn that matters of migration and forced displacement are concerned about human beings and therefore require knowledge and awareness of accurate facts, reliable sources, ethical reporting and good practices. Experienced journalists will benefit from using the volume as a self-learning tool, and media development organizations may adapt the curriculum to their training plans.The project will impact a more comprehensive coverage of migrant and refugee matters in countries of origin, transit and destination, and a more balanced and informed public debate across countries and cultures.

The consequences of climate breakdown are felt in all parts of the world and by most people, yet only the richest people and countries have the wealth, power and influence to protect themselves. With that power comes huge responsibility.If no action is taken, the richest will continue to burn through the carbon we have left to use while keeping the global temperature below the safe limit of 1.5°C, destroying any chance of ending poverty and ensuring equality. The world needs an equal transformation. Only a radical reduction in inequality, transformative climate action and fundamentally shifting our economic goals as a society can save our planet while ensuring wellbeing for all.
